Week 3

This week in science we did some really fun and exciting things! We first started off the class with going over some lecture and then we got into our activities. Our activities for this discussion were making a life cycle from Play-Doh and planting some Wisconsin fast plants!

In the lecture portion of class, we learned about life cycles. There were many different examples of life cycles around us. one life cycle that was show to us, through a reading, was the life cycle of a butterfly. I already know the different stages of a butterflies life cycle, but it was really interesting to get an in depth view of their life cycle. I found myself finding out things about butterflies that I had no idea about. After the presentation portion of class, we started to do some more hands on work.

Our first task of the day was to create a life cycle model from Play-Doh. Our science group chose to do the life cycle of a frog. We divided the cycle up into four sections so we each could make a model. Kallea made the eggs, Maci made the tadpole, I made the froglet, and Cece made the frog! We had so much fun making this model and presenting it to the class.

Here are a few photos from our life cycle model!

After we were finished with creating our life cycle models, we moved onto learning about Wisconsin fast plants. These plants are typically used in classrooms to teach kids about the plant growing process, along with pollination, and other things! After we learned about these types of plants, we planted our own! This was a really fun experience as well, I had not done this since around 3rd or 4th grade!
This is a photo of our our wicks and a little soil in our quadrant.
Here is our completed quadrant! There are wicks, soil, fertilizer, and seeds in each quad.

Overall, I really enjoyed the lessons we did this week. I enjoyed the Play-Doh the most! It was really fun getting to create the life cycles in models versus just drawing them on paper or writing about them! After this week, I generally do not have any questions. I am looking forward to next week!
