Week 6

This week in science we did many different things, Wednesday was a pretty busy day for us in class! We did many different things like share our findings from our assignments last week, checked on the newly hatched butterflies, checked on our fast growing plants, and cross pollinate with some bees! Along with these hands on activities, we also read a book about sea turtles, did a fortune teller activity that determined if our turtle survived on its own in the wild, and a work sheet that broke down how these factors can harm and help turtles.          This week there were not a lot of things that I did not understand. I actually really enjoyed the lab this week and got all the concepts that were presented to us. I like the way that we broke things down this week. I also enjoyed our in class discussion about the lesson plans we modified. I also like the game that we played in class to help us better understand how turtles go through m...

Week 5

In science this week, we learned a lot of new information, more specifically about understanding life cycles, biomes, habitats, ecosystems and food chains.      Some things that we learned are how food chains produce an endless amount of energy for different ecosystems and environments. Food chains are important to the environment, even when food chains are disrupted, they still can be adjusted to the considered environment.        Some important vocabulary that we learned during our discussion were:  - biome: a large-scale category of ecosystems that have similar climate conditions and similar dominate types of plants and animals. - habitat: a specific place where a particular community of organism lives.  - Ecosystem: a community of living and non-living things that interact with each other in a specific environment.        Along with learning about these different aspects of na...

Week 4

This week in science we did lots of new and exciting things! This week we learned about the 5E model in class, explored and presented our findings with the 5E model, and looked at caterpillars!      One of the more important things we did in class during our discussion section was learning about the 5E model. The 5E model consists of the five E's for science. These 5 E's are Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate. I really enjoyed learning about this model because I think it will be a good tool to use in my future classroom. Not only does this work for science but it can work for other subjects as well. I think that the 5E model is a great way to get students interested and engaged in what they are learning. I think that this will really help them think about the content they are learning and how to explain and retain the information presented to them.      I am very interested in how the 5E model came to be. It seems very ...

Week 3

This week in science we did some really fun and exciting things! We first started off the class with going over some lecture and then we got into our activities. Our activities for this discussion were making a life cycle from Play-Doh and planting some Wisconsin fast plants!      In the lecture portion of class, we learned about life cycles. There were many different examples of life cycles around us. one life cycle that was show to us, through a reading, was the life cycle of a butterfly. I already know the different stages of a butterflies life cycle, but it was really interesting to get an in depth view of their life cycle. I found myself finding out things about butterflies that I had no idea about. After the presentation portion of class, we started to do some more hands on work.      Our first task of the day was to create a life cycle model from Play-Doh. Our science group chose to do the life cycle of a frog. We divided the cycle up into four...
