Week 4

This week in science we did lots of new and exciting things! This week we learned about the 5E model in class, explored and presented our findings with the 5E model, and looked at caterpillars!

One of the more important things we did in class during our discussion section was learning about the 5E model. The 5E model consists of the five E's for science. These 5 E's are Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate. I really enjoyed learning about this model because I think it will be a good tool to use in my future classroom. Not only does this work for science but it can work for other subjects as well. I think that the 5E model is a great way to get students interested and engaged in what they are learning. I think that this will really help them think about the content they are learning and how to explain and retain the information presented to them.

I am very interested in how the 5E model came to be. It seems very simple but I also would like to know how this was out together. I think that having some background on the content and skills that we are presenting to our students is very important, this is something that I will be looking into more!

Another portion of class that I enjoyed was getting to go more in depth with the 5E model. Our table group made a power point presentation explaining how each step can be used by the educator and the student. This was a really good way to find out and understand how each of these can be applied from the giving and receiving end of things. I also really enjoyed the lesson break down we did with the 5E model. My table mates and I had a good time making understanding of each standard and being able to express and explain why we though each section should get what score.

Overall, learning about the 5E model was really fun and engaging. I don't have many questions that follow, other than the ones above. I really enjoyed this lesson and getting to learn about this model!

Other than learning about this model, we got to see our plants progress in class, along with seeing some caterpillars! This was all very exciting, except, I am not a big fan of bugs! So, even seeing the caterpillars in the jar was hard for me, but we all just laughed about it.
