Week 5

In science this week, we learned a lot of new information, more specifically about understanding life cycles, biomes, habitats, ecosystems and food chains.

Some things that we learned are how food chains produce an endless amount of energy for different ecosystems and environments. Food chains are important to the environment, even when food chains are disrupted, they still can be adjusted to the considered environment.

Some important vocabulary that we learned during our discussion were:

- biome: a large-scale category of ecosystems that have similar climate conditions and similar dominate types of plants and animals.

- habitat: a specific place where a particular community of organism lives.

- Ecosystem: a community of living and non-living things that interact with each other in a specific environment.

Along with learning about these different aspects of nature, we also did a jam board activity. My group was in charge of creating a food chain model for a freshwater ecosystem.

Besides learning about these different things, we also got to check on our plants that are growing in the classroom! Our plants have gotten so big that they have started to fall over. My table partner took it upon ourselves to fix that problem. Here are some updated pictures:

Overall, I did not really learn anything new this week. This was all prior knowledge to me, but I did enjoy getting to learn about these ideas again. I think that relearning some ideas like this is important and vital to our learning/ teaching in the future. Even though I did not learn anything specifically new, I was refreshed and relearned things that I had already known about.

  1. I also thought it was nice to be refreshed on this information considering we will be teaching it in a couple of years!
