Week 8

 This week in science we learned many new things. This weeks focus was mostly on DNA,RNA, understanding mutations, traits, genes, and much more! 


At the start of class we checked on our fast plants, our plants are growing really big and doing really well! After that, we talked as a whole group about our 5E model responses and collaborated with our answers. After this we shared our babies that we had made last week, we also talked about how our babies got these genes and presented a picture to our class.

  After we discussed the homework, we talked about how DNA is structured and other components of DNA. Things that were discussed were the structure of DNA, how DNA, RNA, MRNA work together, transcriptions, and translations. This was a good refresher on some information that I had prior knowledge on. 

After we had discussed these different topics, we did different gene mutation simulations. These were fun to do because it was great to see how these different mutations can work.

After the gene mutation simulations, we did a short activity to help us understand these concepts further. The activity was about a regular joe who got an X gene that caused mutations. Our job was to look at the codons and figure out what was wrong. This was a great way to understand these concepts more. I have been familiar with these concepts for a while since I have taken many classes that have covered these ideas, but I still learned something new and got more clarity. 

Overall, I thought science was fun this week and I learned a lot! I do not have many questions about things since I got clarity while in class.

Week 15, final week of science ;(

 This week in science we wrapped up all of our class sections. We still did some pretty fun stuff in lab and also took of final in our last lecture class.  In lab, we played a really fun game that taught us how to make observations and inferences. We were given a capsule with a mystery item inside. We had to use observations to find our partner who had a matching capsule with the same item on the inside. It was really fun trying to find our match! After we found who we thought was our partner, we had to write down what observations and inferences. Then we wrote down how confident we are that we are a match, then wrote what we thought was in our bottles. We were 100% a match which was awesome. I loved this experiment/ game and would defiantly do something like this with my future students!
