Week 9

This week in science we did not do much. The majority of our time in lab this week, we went over the homework from last week and also played a game that taught us about natura selection.

First, we briefly over our homework of last week. This homework consisted of going over different appendixes and picking the one we found most interesting. We each summarized our own and then shared our ideas with the class. I have no questions in regard to the homework, I got a lot of clarity during our class discussion.

The next thing we did during lab time this week was play a game that taught us about natural selection in the wild. The game was actually very fun and we had a great time doing it! We even ended up playing an extra round of the game because it was so fun. Essentially,  the game consisted of a group of four or five. We each had a different utensil to use to scoop up our 'prey'. Our 'prey' was dried beans that were scattered across the table. When it was time to go, we had 30 seconds to try and collect as many beans, with our utensils, as we could. I had a fork, Kallea had a spoon, and then Cece and Maci had popsicle sticks. After the first round, someone would get a new utensil to use for the next. This was to show us how things change and adapt to the environment around us. Overall, this game was great and I think is a great way to teach natural selection.

Here is a photo of the beans that were used in our activity.

Overall, I do not have any questions after this week. I think I have a pretty good understanding of the content that was presented to us.

  1. I think that this activity did a great job of conveying natural selection in a very understandable way!
